At Home Speech & Language Services is committed to providing the highest quality services for children experiencing communication problems. All services are provided at the site that best suits the needs of the child and family: home, day care, private school, and other approved settings.
Parents can call to book an appointment for their child. Please call 902-292-8799 to book an appointment. Referrals are also received from physicians and other healthcare professionals. Referrals can also be faxed at 888-382-7048.
The initial consultation is typically one hour in length. There will be an interview to obtain medical history and to identify specific concerns. Reports/results from other health professionals provide important background information. Observation and assessment are then initiated. In some cases, formal testing is required, and, if needed, can be conducted over several sessions. The child's level of attention and fatigue must be considered.
The following areas are evaluated as indicated:
- Receptive Language
- Expressive Language
- Reading and Writing
- Pragmatic Language/Social Skills
- Consideration for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
Your clinician will discuss with you during the first visit whether or not further assessment is needed, as well as whether or not therapy is recommended. Treatment sessions are tailored to suit the needs of each child/student. Parents/caregivers participate during treatment sessions and learn important techniques. Family involvement is critical, and frequent practice is recommended in order to achieve progress. Specific functional goals are established and progress is carefully monitored. Treatment sessions are typically one hour in length. The number of treatment sessions will depend on the individual needs of the client, as recommended by the therapist.
Fee for service
The standard clinical rate is $100.00 per hour. Travel to you is free within HRM.
Payment is required following a session, payable by cash, check made out to "At Home Speech & Language Services", or credit card (we are regiatered with the "Square" system on our mobile devices). Clients are responsible for verifying their health coverage plans and for submitting receipts for reimbursement.
